Sarah Palin makes appearance on SNL- Tina Fey kicks ass!

When I found out Governor Palin was going to be on SNL I got sick to my stomach and almost put down the Washington Post in disgust. Almost. Instead of boycotting SNL, which I was seriously considering, I decided to tune in Saturday night at 11:30 and I'm glad I did. Tina Fey was phenomenol and SNL made fun of Sarah Palin to her face. She just stood there and took it, even getting in a few jabs at herself- priceless.

Is there anyone that Palin doesn't disgust?

Maybe her husband. Her kids. Her parents. A few die hard Alaskans. Quite a few stubborn Republicans. Ok, so maybe there are a few people out there who actually like Palin- those who are tied to her through vows, blood, state, and party. Yet it amazes me so many ignorant Americans are still backing her up. Does your pride of being a Republican prevent you from admitting the obvious- that Governor Palin belongs in the wilderness and not in the national spotlight and especially not in the White House?

When I feel hopeless about the situation, I sign on to the wonderful world of the internet to join like minded individuals in making fun of Sarah Palin.

I'm glad that there are other people devoting their time to speaking out about Governor Palin. I want to know that I'm doing my best to show people who the real Sarah Palin is, both through humorous pieces and factual commentary, articles, and analysis. With the election only few short weeks away I am becoming anxious of the results. Senator Obama is doing well in the polls but we can't simply rely on those- there are people in this nation that truly want Senator McCain to become president (shocking, I know). I hope that each and everyone of you, come election day, can say that you did your part to inform others about the realities of having a McCain/Palin administration.

Today, I ask of you one thing. Inform someone, anyone on Governor Palin. Tell a family member, post something on a website or on a social networking site like Facebook or Myspace. Call up a relative or an old friend. Tell that person sitting next to you at happy hour. I don't care who you tell as long as you tell someone. Hopefully together we can get people to see who the real Sarah Palin is.

And then they came for the trade unionists, And I didn’t speak up because I wasn’t a trade unionist;
And then they came for the Jews, And I didn’t speak up because I wasn’t a Jew;
And then . . . they came for me . . . And by that time there was no one left to speak up."

Silly Sarah, you can't change Washington when you're part of the problem

On Friday, a state investigator's report claimed Governor Sarah Palin was guilty of violating state ethics laws by trying to fire her ex-brother-in-law:

I find that Governor Sarah Palin abused her power by violating Alaska Statute 39.52.110(a) of the Alaska Executive Branch Ethics Act. Alaska Statute 39.52.110(a) provides

"The legislature reaffirms that each public officer holds office as a public trust, and any effort to benefit a personal or financial interest through official action is a violation of that trust."

(Read the entire 263 pg. report here)

In reacting to her guilty verdict, she showed typical political behavior- refusing to acknowledge any wrongdoing.

"Well, I’m very very pleased to be cleared of any legal wrongdoing," Palin said, "any hint of any kind of unethical activity there. Very pleased to be cleared of any of that."

Um, you were found guilty of exaclty what you claimed you were cleared of- of course there was unethical activity...read the damn report you twit!

Palin said what?
There are so many others that one could do for this...oh, man. Have fun with this one, ya'll!

Palin gets schooled on security- from a 20 year old

Last month someone hacked into Governor Palin's personal e-mail acount and posted various items from her email online- including family pics, birthdates, a cell phone number and official state email exchanges, as well as her address book. Today, David Kernell, the 20 year old son of Memphis state legislator Mike Kernell (D), was indicted by a federal grand jury for allegedly hacking into Palin's personal email. The charges are ridiculously high for a young adult who was showing just how naivee Senator John McCain's running mate really is- a maximum 5 year prison term, $250,000 fine and a three year term of supervised release upon conviction.

Governor Palin used two, yes TWO, Yahoo email accounts for which she conducted state business. David Kernell hacked into her gov.palin@yahoo.com email account. Her other account, gov.sarah@yahoo.com, was being investigated by federal authorities for her role in the firing of the Public Safety Commissioner, Walt Monegan, commonly referred to now as 'Troopergate'. After learning of Kernell's hack of the email account both email accounts were deleted, an action that could be viewed as destruction of evidence. Palin also could face charges for conducting official state business using her personal, unarchived e-mail account, according to an article in Time.

David Kernell committed a crime and in doing so brought a credible issue to light- how can we trust a VP who as governor conducted business using her personal email account, an account which was hacked into by a mere 20 year old (no offense to you David)? If someone so young and talented could hack into her account for fun, imagine what someone with much more experience and an ulterior motive could do to harm not only Palin but perhaps the United States of America. Governor Palin's email account was a breach of national security. Governor Palin, you are lucky that it was David Kernell who hacked into your email account and exposed it this early in the game because god forbid if you ever became Vice President and used a personal YAHOO email account and a sinister hacker obtained vital national security information the ramifications would be tragic for this country.

Guilt by Association- Is this the 'new American way'?

At a rally on October 4, Governor Palin accused Senator Obama as being "someone who sees America as imperfect enough to pall around with terrorists who targeted their own country". Palin was referring to a NY Times article which discussed Obama and William Ayers, the man Palin referred to as a terrorist, and looked in depth at their relationship with one another.

Bill Ayers was a founding member of Weather Underground, a radical group of the 60s that protested the Vietnam War by targeting domestic infrastructures, including the Pentagon and Capitol. Federal charges were dropped against him because of FBI misconduct in gathering evidence. As you are probably aware, and Governor Palin is certainly aware, Ayers and Obama live in the same neighborhood in Chicago. The extent of Obama and Ayers relationship is that both were involved in several volunteer projects, projects I might add that numerous others were involved with.

Bill Ayers is a professor at the University of Illinois and his wife, also a Weather Underground founder, is a professor at Northwestern University. Chicago Mayor Daley has consulted Ayers numerous times on educational reform issues. Are we to conclude that Mayor Daley and the thousands of students that the Ayers have taught the past few decades are also "palling around with terrorists"? If you're going by Palin's guilt by association standard, then yes.

Ayers and Obama both served on the board for the Woods Fund of Chicago, a grantmaking foundation whose goal is to increase opportunities for less advantaged people and communities in the metropolitan area, including the opportunity to shape decisions affecting them. So Senator Obama 'palls around with terrorists' because he serves on this amazing charitable board that wants to help the 'have nots' in Chicago? Right... And the Chicago Annenberg Challenge, which both Ayers and Obama worked on, incrase[s] the ability of schools to better themselves by investing in the "on the ground" improvement efforts of networks. Education reform is a huge issue that frankly I would love to hear more about during this election cycle. From what I can see Senator Obama is not guilty of anything, but Governor Palin is sure as hell guilty of libel.

Senator Obama knows Bill Ayers simply by association. There is no evidence that their relationship goes beyond the volunteer projects they both worked on. To make the claim that Senator Obama is "palling around with terrorists" simply because he served on the same board as Bill Ayers is an incredulous and deliberate attack at his integrity by a woman who will stop at nothing to get to the top. Palin is a force to be reckoned with in this election- and I can't believe I'm saying that. Governor Palin prefaced her terrorist remark about Senator Obama by saying "This is not a man who sees America the way that I do". Just exactly how do you see America, Palin- yours for the taking? I believe that many Americans in increasing numbers see America the way that I do- screwed if you take office.

My recommended reading for further information on this issue:

CNN's Fact Check: Is Obama 'palling around with terrorists'
?, October 5, 2008. Checks the statement Palin made for factual accuracy.

My Bill Ayers, an article in The New Yorker by George Packer. April 18, 2008. A great opinion piece discussing the political nonsense of placing blame or guilt by association.

Being tough is kid's stuff to politicians, an article in the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette by Clarence Page. Aug 6, 1997. Discusses Ayers and his work on educational reform.

Notes from the Underground, an article in the Washington Post by Desson Howe. August 15, 2003. Describes the Weatherman's beginnings and ideologies. Quite an interesting read.

The Weather Underground, a Time article by Claire Suddath. October 7, 2008. Discusses the Weather Underground's activities in the 60s and 70s. Very interesting read.

This just in- the DMV gnomes are Republican! Guard your registration with your life!

Are you registered to vote? Are you sure about that? You should double check- in fact, I'm begging you to double check. Recently I permanently moved to DC and thus went to the DMV to get my ID. While there, I filled out an application to register to vote in DC. A few months went by and I didn't give it a thought until a colleague entered my name online to see if I was registered. I was shocked to find out that they had no record of my registration in DC. I immediately called the DC office and asked them to double check. They confirmed it- they could not find my name. How could this happen, I asked furiously. His reply? Sometimes the DMV forgets to send the forms over or waits until they have a big batch.

Ok, this is ridiculous! How many other people are in my situation? How many other people are eagerly awaiting the election and their turn to vote, not knowing that come November 4th their vote will not count because the DMV did them a disservice?

Please, check out this awesome PSA. It has a great cast of celebrities and comedians. And please, if you do nothing else today, double check that you are registered to vote!
