Last night I cried

Last night as I finally got home after a long day at work I turned on CNN and found Senator Barack Obama was our next President of the United States. I screamed and began jumping on my bed like a little kid, calling my mom and saying "We did it, oh my god, we did it!"

Despite having to get up in a mere 3 hours to go back in to work I stayed up to watch President Elect Obama's speech. It was beautiful, poetic- surely to be named one of the greatest speeches in history. I was overcome with emotions and a strong belief that change really is going to come to America. I could already imagine myself telling my kids someday that I witnessed one of the most historical moments in the history of America.

As I tried to fall asleep I was disrupted by sirens, car horns incessantly blaring, chants and cheers, and even gun shots. I didn't mind- I opened my window and fell asleep with a smile on my tear laden face to the sounds of victory, to the sound of change.

Last night I cried. Not of despair or out of pain or rage. Not because I lost something or had my feelings hurt. No, last night I cried because for the first time in a long time I truly believed that change was going to come. Yes. We. Can.

Congrats, President Elect Obama!

Although I'm not an American but I'm happy for the same reason. I saw Obama speech, it was online and I agree with you, it was beautiful. By the way, I saw another of your blog, I <3 DC. Both of your blog are well written, you are able to express your opinions well. Keep writing. :)
